The 2006 Young Neighbors in Action team has returned from their week long mission trip! In January 2007 BASIC Youth Ministry will begin to form next year's Young Neighbors In Action team. This team of youth and adults will spend a week of their summer vacation reaching out to children and families in need in San Francisco. The Young Neighbors team will be preparing for this service experience through a variety of educational and fundraising activities, as well as involvement in local service ventures.

During the summer of 2007 Young Neighbors will involve 2500+ participants in providing service to poor children and families in 19 sites spread throughout the United States, along the Mexican border, in Canada, and along the Gulf. Work assignments differ from site to site but will involve projects like volunteering time in homeless shelters and soup kitchens, assisting with recreation and tutoring programs, and helping with clean-up, painting and minor repairs for families in need.

Please remember to keep watch in January for the 2007 Young Neighbors in Action sign ups! An Informational meeting will be held in January for all those interested in joining next year's YNIA team. Young Neighbors in Action is an amazing opportunity for teens to reach out to those in need, and relate that experience to their Catholic faith. The Young Neighbors program also includes time for recreation and mixing with other participants, education sessions geared at helping our youth understand why the needs they are responding to exist, and opportunities to learn about local cultural and ethnic groups. The team will be prepared to work, learn, and play hard throughout the week.
